Hair transplant surgery is surgery that is performed to restore hair to areas of the scalp that are bald or that have thinning hair. There are multiple types of hair replacement surgery. Most commonly, these involve hair transplantation, but flap surgery, tissue expansion of the scalp and scalp reduction surgery, are also methods used for hair replacement. Each of these types of surgeries can be used alone, or in combination, to provide the patient with the best possible outcome for hair replacement.
Hair transplantation involves mainly two methods and its other sub types. FUT involves removing small pieces of hair-bearing scalp from a donor site and using them as grafts to be relocated to a bald or thinning area of the scalp. FUE is another procedure in which punches are used to extract small units of hair which are used for transplantation.
Flaps surgeries involve moving hair bearing scalp tissue into bald areas of the scalp.Tissue expansion allows the hair bearing scalp to be expanded to help cover areas of the scalp that have no hair.
Scalp reduction surgery involves surgically removing bald areas of the scalp and advancing, or bringing together, the hair bearing areas of the scalp.
If you and your surgeon have determined that hair transplant surgery is the best option for you, you can feel comfortable knowing that board-certified plastic surgeons have been successfully performing these types of procedures with good precision and great results.
Baldness is often blamed on poor circulation to the scalp, vitamin deficiencies, dandruff and even excessive hat wearing. All of these theories have been disproved. It's also untrue that hair loss can be determined by looking at your maternal grandfather, or that 40-year-old men who haven't lost their hair will never lose it.
Hair loss is primarily caused by a combination of:
As a rule, the earlier hair loss begins, the more severe the baldness will become. The treatment timing and type of treatment has to be selected for indevidual patients according the type of hair loss that they have and howmuch restoration they need. There are a wide spectrum of treatment modalities starting from simple hair care measures to medical and laser therapy to hormonal therapy to the Hair Transplant surgery. The type of hair transplant procedure to be selected for that particular patient is also very important.
Hair Transplantation is a procedure to restore the hairs on scalp and face using patients own hairs. Hairs from the safe region of the scalp (back) is harvested and transplanted to the area of hair loss. The two most commonly followed methods for hair transplantation are FUT and FUE. In FUT, a strip of hair is removed from the back of the head and prepared hair follicles from the strip is transplanted to the recipient area. The donor site will be closed with a linear scar using a specialized suturing method called Trichophytic suturing so that the scar is barely visible through the hairs. FUE is another method in which small punches of different sizes are used for harvesting the hair and these punch grafts are implanted on the recipient areas. The number of hairs harvested through FUT are higher than those during FUE. Also doing an FUE in a young patient with ongoing loss of hair is little tricky. So, in fact both these methods must be combined in such a way that each patient gets maximum benefit out of it.
